West-facing room too hot by 3pm? Aurora gets that a lot.
Aurora is open country. The city spreads across Arapahoe, Adams and Douglas counties on the High Plains east of Denver. There is not much between a west-facing window and the afternoon sun.
The housing is two very different eras. Hoffman Heights is a postwar neighborhood of one-story hip-roofed ranch homes in red and yellow brick, most with large picture windows and no front porch to shade them. Del Mar and the original Fletcher townsite around Downtown A-Town are the same postwar city. Then there is the newer Aurora: Southlands, Saddle Rock, Tallyn's Reach, Murphy Creek, and brand-new master plans like Painted Prairie. ikonic is based in Thornton and installs home window film in both halves of Aurora. The picture window and the new patio slider need different films, and we check each before we quote.
The postwar picture window. Built to let the sun in.
A Hoffman Heights picture window was the point of the house: one big pane facing the street or the yard. In July, facing west, it turns the living room into the warmest room in the house from mid-afternoon until sunset. Some of these windows still carry their original single-pane glass. Some have been replaced with dual-pane units. We check which one you have, because the chart treats them differently.
Solar film fixes the afternoon at the glass. Silver 20 at $10 per sq ft is the lowest-rate solar film we install and gives daytime privacy from the street as a bonus. Ultra View 35 at $11 keeps the room brighter. Pristine Ceramic 40 at $15 is a neutral, non-metal film that keeps the window looking like clear glass. Single-pane glass under 100 square feet qualifies for any of these. See heat and glare film.
New builds near Southlands. Low-E glass, one rule.
A new home in Painted Prairie, Tallyn's Reach or Saddle Rock has dual-pane, usually low-E, glass, and a wide patio slider off the kitchen that faces the sunset. Many films are approved on that glass. The manufacturer's rule is that interior film on dual-pane glass stays under 40 square feet per pane, and we treat triple pane the same way. A big slider panel can be close to that number, so we measure before we recommend.
Because the glass already has a coating, the safe choices are on the chart, not on a hunch. Ultra View 35 at $11 and Pristine Ceramic 40 and 50 at $15 are common answers on newer glass, but your window decides. If an interior film is not approved, X-Series or exterior film is the next option: X Series Silver 35 at $14, Ext Pristine 70 at $18, both plus $2 per lineal foot of edge sealing.
No shade, no neighbors' trees. Rugs and floors fade fast.
Newer Aurora subdivisions have young trees. Older ones have brick and lawn. Either way, the sun reaches the floor. At this elevation and this much open sky, hardwood, laminate and rugs fade faster than the same floor would somewhere lower. Any of the solar films above blocks up to 99% of UV. If you want the fade protection without any visible change, Ultra View 5 at $11 or Pristine Ceramic 80 at $16 per sq ft are close to clear. See UV and fade protection.

We check your glass before we pick a film.
Before any film goes on an Aurora window we identify the glass and check it against the manufacturer's chart of 972 film-and-glass combinations. Single pane under 100 sq ft. Dual pane under 40 sq ft. Clear glass under 3/8 inch. Odd shapes over 25 sq ft and uneven exterior shading void the warranty. Triple pane treated like dual pane. If a film is not safe on your glass, we say so and recommend one that is. Check your glass.
How the visit works
- Free in-home estimate. We come to your Aurora home and look at the actual windows.
- Glass check against the manufacturer's chart. Original single pane or new low-E, we confirm which.
- One written quote, every cost accounted for.
- Install. Most homes are finished in a single visit. Floors and furniture protected. Every edge finished.
Every install carries the manufacturer's film warranty plus ikonic's workmanship guarantee. The glass limits above are what keep that warranty valid.
