One-way film reverses at night. Frost doesn't.

Lafayette started as a coal town. Old Town Lafayette still has houses from the mining era on the original town lots. The town grew again as a suburb in the decades after, and the west side filled in with neighborhoods like Indian Peaks. Today Lafayette sits in southeastern Boulder County, with US 287 as the main road through the city and Waneka Lake in Waneka Lake Park.

Close lots and a busy road mean a common question we get in Lafayette is privacy. ikonic is based in Thornton and installs home window film across Lafayette. Here is the honest version of how privacy film works, and which one fits which window.

Neighbor's window ten feet away. Daytime privacy without curtains.

In Old Town, a side window can look straight into the house next door. A front room on a street off 287 gets foot traffic and headlights. Reflective one-way film gives daytime privacy: from outside, the glass reads like a mirror when it is brighter outside than in. Silver 20 at $10 per sq ft does this and cuts heat and glare at the same time. Cool Alloy 20 at $12 does it with a neutral, less mirror-like finish.

The honest part: one-way film reverses at night. When the lights are on inside and it is dark out, people can see in. If you need privacy after dark, one-way film with curtains is one answer. The other is below. See privacy film.

Bathrooms and side windows. Private day and night.

Frost at $11 per sq ft lets light through and blurs the view both ways, 24 hours a day. It does not reverse at night, and it looks like etched glass. Whiteout at $11 does the same with a solid white look. Both are the answer for a bathroom window facing a neighbor, a glass front door, or a basement window at sidewalk level. Frost bands and cut patterns are quoted separately. Blackout at $11 blocks light entirely, but the manufacturer approves it only on tempered single-pane glass, so we confirm the glass before we quote it. See frosted and decorative film.

Indian Peaks and the west side. Sun, fade, and the view.

The homes in Indian Peaks, and most newer homes in Lafayette, in neighborhoods like Anna's Farm, Centaur Village and the streets around Waneka Lake, have dual-pane glass, and many have rooms that face west toward the mountains. Those rooms get the afternoon sun and the fading that comes with it. A light solar film keeps the view and blocks up to 99% of UV. Ultra View 35 at $11 or Pristine Ceramic 50 at $15 per sq ft keep the room bright. Dual-pane glass is approved for interior film under 40 square feet per pane; we measure the big windows. See heat and glare film.

Old Town glass. Older, thinner, still film-ready.

Some Old Town Lafayette houses may still have single-pane wood windows from the mining years. Single-pane glass qualifies for interior film up to 100 square feet per pane, so almost any window in an old house passes the size check. What we look for is cracks, chips, thickness over 3/8 inch, and existing film. Near-clear Ultra View 5 at $11 protects wood floors and furniture from fading without changing the look of an old window.

We check your glass before we pick a film.

Every Lafayette window is identified and checked against the manufacturer's chart of 972 film-and-glass combinations. Single pane under 100 sq ft. Dual pane under 40 sq ft. Clear glass under 3/8 inch. Odd shapes over 25 sq ft and uneven exterior shading void the warranty. Triple pane treated like dual pane. If a film is not safe on your glass, we say so and recommend one that is. Check your glass.
