40 square feet per dual pane. Erie's most important number.
Erie has grown fast, and most of that growth is new construction: Colliers Hill, Flatiron Meadows, Erie Highlands, Westerly, Morgan Hill, Vista Ridge around the Colorado National Golf Club, Parkdale, Erie Commons. The town straddles Weld and Boulder counties, and newer subdivisions like Flatiron Meadows and Morgan Hill are sold on their mountain views. Which means a lot of large, west-facing, dual-pane, low-E glass.
That glass is exactly where a film installer has to be careful. ikonic is based in Thornton and installs home window film across Erie. Before we recommend anything, we identify your glass and check it against the manufacturer's chart of 972 film-and-glass combinations. On new dual-pane glass, the size cap and the coating decide the film, not the sales pitch.
New-build dual-pane glass. Why the 40-square-foot cap exists.
A dual-pane window is two sheets of glass sealed around a pocket of air or gas. Interior film changes how much heat the inside sheet absorbs. On a small pane that is fine. On a big pane, the inner sheet can heat unevenly against the sealed edge, and that stress is how glass cracks and seals fail. So the manufacturer approves interior film on dual-pane glass only under 40 square feet per pane. ikonic applies the same 40-square-foot cap to triple pane as an in-house rule.
A typical patio slider panel in a new Erie home is under that line. A great-room window wall facing the Front Range may not be. We measure every pane. If one is over the cap, exterior film is the honest answer: Ext Pristine 70 or 80 at $18 per sq ft, or Zen SSX 55 at $18, plus $2 per lineal foot of edge sealing. Both are low-reflectance exterior films, 9% and 10% exterior reflectance, and both are safer for the turf below a reflective window.
Low-E coatings. The chart decides, we don't guess.
Most new windows in Erie carry a low-E coating from the factory. Many films are approved on low-E dual-pane glass. Some are not. The difference is on the chart, not on the price tag, which is why two films at the same rate can get different results on your window. Ultra View 35 at $11 per sq ft is a frequent approval on newer glass and keeps the room bright. Pristine Ceramic 40 at $15 is a neutral, non-metal option. We show you the chart result for your glass on the estimate.
Mountain-view glass facing west. Heat without darkening the view.
Nobody in Flatiron Meadows or Morgan Hill bought the lot to put blinds on the view. West glass takes the full afternoon, and the room behind it is warm until sunset from June through September. Solar film cuts heat and glare while the view stays. Lighter shades exist for exactly this reason: Ultra View 35, Cool Alloy 60 at $12, and Pristine Ceramic 70 at $16 all keep the window looking clear from inside. Any of them blocks up to 99% of UV, so the floor by the window stops fading. See heat and glare film.
HOA rules. Films that look like untreated glass from the street.
If your Erie neighborhood has an HOA with exterior rules, neutral, low-reflectance films look closest to untreated glass from the curb. Pristine Ceramic and Ultra View are neutral from outside; Ext Pristine and Zen SSX 55 are the low-reflectance exterior choices. If your HOA wants paperwork, we give you the film's spec sheet to submit before we book the install.
Old Town Erie. Older glass, a different check.
Erie began as a coal town, and its miners owned houses in town rather than living in camps. Some Old Town homes still have older single-pane windows. Single-pane glass is approved for interior film up to 100 square feet per pane, so the check there is about cracks, chips and thickness rather than size. Near-clear film for fade protection, or Frost at $11 per sq ft for a close-set bathroom window, are the common asks.

We check your glass before we pick a film.
Single pane under 100 sq ft. Dual pane under 40 sq ft. Clear glass under 3/8 inch. Odd shapes over 25 sq ft and uneven exterior shading void the warranty. Triple pane treated like dual pane. If a film is not safe on your glass, we say so and recommend one that is. Check your glass.
