Your Boulder house. One written quote.
Boulder sits at the base of the foothills, more than a mile up, with the Flatirons straight to the west. Every west-facing window in town points at the view and at the late-afternoon sun. The city has lots of sun and low humidity, and that altitude means more UV on floors and furniture than the same window would get lower down.
Boulder has limited new building for decades, so people fix up the houses that exist instead of building new. That leaves a city of distinct eras, and each one comes with its own glass. Mapleton Hill has large late-1800s and early-1900s homes with deep porches. Whittier was one of the first settled areas, with more modest houses. Martin Acres, between US 36 and Broadway, is small ranch and split-level homes from the 1950s and 1960s. Table Mesa, on the south end near Highway 93, was built mostly in the 1960s and 1970s. Gunbarrel's housing went up from the mid-1960s to the mid-1970s.
We work in all of them, the same way. Free in-home estimate. Glass identified and checked against the manufacturer's chart. One written quote. Most homes finished in a single visit.
Mapleton Hill and Whittier. Old glass, faded floors.
A century-old Boulder house often still has original single-pane windows, or a mix of original and replacement. Original wood floors, rugs and artwork sit in front of them. South and west sun at Boulder's altitude fades all of it.
Single-pane glass is the easy case in the chart. Almost every film qualifies, up to 100 square feet per pane. Ultra View 5 at $11 per sq ft blocks up to 99% of UV and leaves the window looking untouched, which matters on a historic front elevation. Pristine Ceramic 70 or 80 at $16 per sq ft adds real heat control while staying near clear.
One honest caution for tree-lined streets: a big maple that shades half a pane for part of the day counts as uneven exterior shading, and that voids the film warranty. We look for it at the estimate.
Martin Acres, Table Mesa, Gunbarrel. Mid-century glass facing the Flatirons.
Ranches and split-levels from the 1950s through the 1970s were built for the view. Wide living room windows and sliding doors face west, at the mountains and at the 4pm sun. By late afternoon the room is unusable and the AC is working hard.
Many of these houses have had windows replaced with dual-pane units since. That brings the 40 square foot per pane cap and the low-E question into play. We measure each pane.
Silver 20 at $10 per sq ft cuts the most heat and adds daytime privacy, with a reflective look. Ultra View 35 at $11 per sq ft keeps the Flatirons view clear and neutral. Pristine Ceramic 40 at $15 per sq ft is the non-metal middle ground. For the worst west glass, an exterior film like Ext Pristine 70 at $18 per sq ft plus $2 per lineal ft edge sealing takes the heat off before it reaches the pane.
Downtown shops and offices. Glare, tagging, and your name on the glass.
Boulder is not only houses. If you run a shop or office downtown or near the University of Colorado campus that anchors the city, the afternoon sun hits your displays and your staff the same way it hits a living room.
Storefront solar film keeps the window see-through for foot traffic. Ultra View 35 at $11 per sq ft or Pristine Ceramic 70 at $16 per sq ft cut glare and merchandise fade without darkening the window. Ground-floor glass can take Clear Defense anti-graffiti film, 4mil at $12 or 6mil at $13 per sq ft, a clear sacrificial layer that takes scratches, etching and paint instead of the pane. When it is tagged, we replace the film, not the glass. Guardian security film at $20 per sq ft plus $4 per lineal ft edge sealing holds broken glass in the frame. We work around your hours.
