40 square feet per dual pane. That's the limit.

Superior is mostly new glass. The town started as a coal camp in the 1890s and stayed a small ranching community after the Industrial Mine closed. Then Rock Creek broke ground in the late 1980s. That one master-planned community holds thousands of single- and multi-family homes, and it turned a small town into a real one within a decade. Downtown Superior and its newer apartments and townhomes came later still.

The Marshall Fire made the glass newer again. On December 30, 2021 Superior lost hundreds of homes. The Sagamore subdivision was hit hardest, and Original Town lost most of its historic houses. Rebuilt houses across town now carry current dual-pane, often low-E, windows.

That matters for film. Dual-pane glass traps heat between the panes when the wrong film goes on, and the manufacturer's chart says no above 40 square feet per pane. A big great-room window in Rock Creek can be over that line. We measure every pane and check it against 972 film-and-glass combinations before we write a number down. If a pane fails, we tell you, and we do not install on it.

Rock Creek and the rebuilt streets. Low-E glass, checked pane by pane.

Most Superior windows are dual-pane. Many have a low-E coating, and rebuilt homes almost always do. Low-E is good for a Colorado winter. It also narrows which films the chart approves, because the coating already reflects part of the heat and film adds to the load on the glass.

  • Each dual-pane unit must be under 40 square feet for the film warranty to hold.
  • Triple-pane glass gets the same 40 square foot cap as an in-house rule.
  • The chart result depends on the glass and its coating, not on the price of the film.
  • Odd-shaped windows over 25 square feet, and panes shaded unevenly from outside, void the warranty.

Ultra View 35 at $11 per sq ft is the light-shade film we reach for first on approved dual-pane glass. It cuts glare and heat and looks close to untreated glass from the street. Pristine Ceramic 40 at $15 per sq ft is the neutral, non-metal step up. It is a solar film, not a security film.

Original Town. Older wood-frame homes, older glass.

Original Town is the older core, mostly wood-frame houses from the first half of the last century, on modest lots laid out on a grid. Some of those homes kept single-pane glass through the decades. Some were rebuilt after the fire with new windows. Same street, two different film conversations.

Original single-pane glass is the easiest case in the chart. Almost every film we install qualifies on it, up to 100 square feet per pane. The problem in these homes is fading. South and west sun at altitude bleaches wood floors, rugs and upholstery. Ultra View 5 at $11 per sq ft blocks up to 99% of UV and does not change the look of the window. Silver 20 at $10 per sq ft adds heat control and daytime privacy on a street-facing front room.

HOA glass. Neutral films that pass from the street.

The Rock Creek HOA reviews exterior changes and has rules that touch windows. Interior film is not a structural change, but a mirror-finish film changes how the house reads from the sidewalk, and that is what an HOA notices.

Our answer is a neutral film. Ultra View 35, Pristine Ceramic 40, 70 or 80 look closest to untreated glass. If a window needs an exterior film, Ext Pristine 70 or 80 has 9% exterior reflectance and Zen SSX 55 has 10% exterior reflectance, both at $18 per sq ft plus $2 per lineal ft edge sealing. We give you the film spec sheet to submit with your request. Check your own HOA's policy before you book; we can help you read it.

  • UV and fading: Ultra View 5 $11, Pristine Ceramic 70 and 80 $16 per sq ft. UV and fade protection.

Example, before we see your glass: a Rock Creek family room with three 3 ft by 5 ft dual-pane windows is 45 sq ft, each pane 15 sq ft and under the cap. Ultra View 35 at $11 per sq ft comes to $495. What home window tinting costs in Superior.

$400 job minimum. This is a rate card, not a quote.

We check your glass before we pick a film.

We identify your glass and check it against the manufacturer's chart of 972 film-and-glass combinations before we recommend anything.

  • Single-pane glass under 100 sq ft.
  • Dual-pane glass under 40 sq ft. Triple-pane treated the same.
  • Clear glass under 3/8 inch thick.
  • Odd-shaped windows over 25 sq ft void the warranty.
  • Uneven exterior shading voids the warranty.
  • Blackout film only on tempered single-pane glass.

If a film is not safe on your glass, we say so and recommend something that is. Check your glass.

Every install carries the manufacturer's film warranty plus ikonic's workmanship guarantee. The glass limits above are what keep that warranty valid.
